Chapter 66 Unfulfilled Ambitions
Chapter 66 Unfulfilled Ambitions
"This isn't right! Something must be wrong!"
Even if there are powerful magical traps or creatures guarding the other side, and all the undead sent over are killed, the soul fragments and negative energy that dissipated after their deaths should have reinforced this passage to the point where it can accommodate higher-level undead!
Why hasn't anything changed? It can still only hold those mindless skeletons and zombies!
Even though he had long since abandoned most of his emotions, Moraes still felt as if something called anger was burning in the fire of his soul.
The unusual activity on the other side of the passage gave him an ominous premonition, as if if he didn't seize this opportunity, he would be trapped in endless waiting again.
This might be his only chance to go to the Prime Material Plane. He must go there to obtain the legendary Book of the Dead, which contains all the secrets of the soul.
"Damn Warren! Damn Klinnax, you never thought I'd be back one day, did you?"
Everything you have lost, I will take back with my own hands, and the rest of your lives will be shrouded in fear!
The fire of his soul flickered intensely in Moraes' eyes; his thirst for knowledge and hatred for betrayal finally made him make up his mind.
The white bone scepter in her hand, pieced together from the bones of countless undead, was tossed aside, and the tattered robe woven from the hair of banshees slipped off her body.
Even that withered and emaciated body suddenly collapsed to the ground in the next instant, and a huge soul emerged from its empty eye sockets.
He planned to discard all external possessions and this body, retaining only his purest soul, in order to fulfill the conditions for passing through this spatial passage.
…………
Thor planned to wait until his two blood relatives returned with three green dragons, and then have them find some white dragon whelps to see if they could transport the piece of True Ice back.
He didn't want to use the large explosive barrel unless absolutely necessary. If it really collapsed the entire underground cave, and he was unlucky enough to be hit by falling rocks, then he would be completely finished.
Moreover, if we could use the True Ice to seal up this mine and reopen it when we are stronger, wouldn't that be equivalent to having a way to continuously obtain spiritual essence?
Just then, a slight noise came from the nearby mine again. At first, Thor didn't pay much attention, but then he noticed that even the ground seemed to be shaking slightly.
This discovery startled him, and he leaped back to the edge of the mine. Looking down from the entrance, he saw a ripple like water appearing below the firelight.
"What happened?"
A faint doubt arose in his heart, but before he could figure it out, a huge black shadow emerged.
The flames burning above seemed to be suppressed by an invisible gale, suddenly dimming, and a hideous phantom soared into the sky, instantly flying out of the mine.
"Hahaha! I'm back! I'm back!!"
The piercing sound echoed in the air, making people's eardrums ache.
Thor stared at the creature that resembled a ghost, yet whose body was as solid as a physical being, and whose strength was many times greater than that of an ordinary undead. Alarm bells rang in his mind.
"What the hell is this? A Shadow Lord? A Banshee? Damn it! I should have sealed off the mine immediately instead of coveting those essences!"
Just as Thor felt a pang of regret, the phantom in mid-air turned its head and looked over with its scarlet eyes that radiated deep malice.
"Look what I found! A red dragon cub on the path of reversion to its ancestral form. No wonder the undead creatures I sent didn't make a move. It turns out you were the one behind this."
This is truly amazing! It's just... incredible!
"To have gained such a perfect body so soon after returning to the Prime Material Plane—the great Grim Reaper and the Goddess of Magic must be looking out for me!"
"Oh no! This old bastard is trying to possess me!"
The piercing sound sent chills down Thor's spine. Without thinking, he opened his mouth wide and unleashed a dragon fire breath at the "ghost."
The raging flames surged forward like a river, but Morath did not dodge or evade. His body, now only a soul, suddenly flashed and appeared above Thor in an instant, pouncing straight at his head.
The speed was so fast that Thor had no time to react. He felt as if he had been hit hard on the head with a club, and after a moment of dizziness, nothing more happened.
The entire underground cavern returned to silence, with only the crackling sounds of burning zombies and skeletons in the nearby mine, as if nothing had happened.
Thor scratched his head, somewhat puzzled. Had that guy just been acting all high and mighty just to scare him?
Wasn't it supposed to be a possession? Why is it all talk and no action, and I don't feel anything at all?
Just as he was feeling completely confused, the subtle details flashing below his line of sight caught his attention.
Mental Essence +1.
Mental Essence +1.
Mental Essence +1.
…………
No longer fragments of spiritual energy, nor even fractions of a fraction, each flash represents a complete and whole point of essence.
He instantly realized what the giant spinning wheel in his mind was absorbing—the spiritual power contained within intense emotions, and fragments of the soul.
That guy just barged in like that, what's the difference between that and throwing a meat bun to a dog?
All the spiritual energy and malice surging towards him were intercepted by the giant spinning wheel as soon as they appeared, and they couldn't touch his soul at all, so he naturally didn't feel anything.
After figuring this out, Thor felt as if he had been struck by a windfall, and everything seemed so unreal.
Now I just hope that guy is strong enough, so he won't be easily drained and can provide me with more essence.
Without Morath's drive, no more undead creatures in the undead demiplane at the other end of the mine would leap into that deep pit one after another.
Thor then discovered that fewer and fewer undead creatures were emerging from the mine, and since he was planning to seal the mine again anyway, he let out a roar to the sky.
"You damned idiots! Where have you been hiding? If you don't show up in three minutes, I'll turn you all into ashes in this pit!"
How could a mere few dozen skeletons and ghosts possibly hold off three green dragon hatchlings and two red dragon offspring for long?
It's obvious that these despicable guys must have been afraid of danger and ran away to hide somewhere nearby.
They only planned to observe for a while, and if nothing unexpected happened, they would come out. If things went wrong, they would run away immediately.
After their whereabouts were exposed, Sistana, Calp, and Tribes quickly ran over, panting heavily, as if they had really been through a great battle.
"We're here! We're here! We rushed over as soon as we heard your call!"
"What happened?"
