Chapter 759 - 730: Love Across Parallel Worlds [052]
Maeve quickly covered the microphone on her phone and softly asked, "Assistant Rhodes and your boyfriend are waiting for us at the highway entrance. They said we should go to South Bay together. Should we let them come along?"Sienna was momentarily stunned. After a while, she remembered Simon Forrester’s disappearance over the past half month. Her emotions flared up, and she said defiantly, "No! I don’t want to see him!"
Maeve hesitated, "Shouldn’t you guys sort things out first? They have experience, and their help wouldn’t hurt us. Didn’t you say you wanted to keep personal and business matters separate?"
Sienna remained silent, turning her head to look out the window.
So Maeve got back on the phone with Harrison Rowe, "Assistant Rhodes, we’ll be at the highway entrance after this light. See you in a bit."
She hung up as the light turned green. With a step on the accelerator, Maeve made a turn onto the ramp leading to the highway entrance.
"Is that the dark grey SUV with the hazard lights on in front?" Maeve tapped Sienna on the arm.
Sienna glanced at the very familiar vehicle, "Yeah, the one with the quadruple ones on the license plate."
Maeve marveled, "Wow, impressive! When that car goes out, no one dares to mess with it just by looking at the plate."
She tried to lighten the mood, but Sienna’s mind was already on the luxury car with the awesome license plate, completely ignoring her.
Maeve pulled up the car, flashed her hazard lights to signal Harrison Rowe to follow, then drove straight to the toll booth, took the card, and got onto the highway.
Sienna turned around and saw, as expected, Simon Forrester’s car following. Harrison was driving, and Simon sat in the passenger seat, wearing sunglasses, Sienna couldn’t see his expression.
"How long has it been since you last saw each other?" Maeve asked.
"Hmm?" Sienna came back to her senses, "Since I bumped into him talking to someone behind a curtain."
"Have you been in touch during this time?"
"No."
Though she knew this wasn’t right, Maeve didn’t make a fuss, pretending to smile lightly, "You’ll have a chance to talk later. You should ask what he’s been up to these past two weeks."
"I don’t want to ask!" Sienna said dejectedly, "I want to break up. My dad is strongly opposed, and he’s been like this, going cold on me for half a month. It just feels unsuitable, forget it."
Maeve shook her head and sighed, not persuading much.
The two-hour highway drive from Brimfield to South Bay, Sienna was out of sorts the whole way, occasionally responding when Maeve spoke to her, the rest of the time fiddling with her phone, looking at pictures of her and Simon.
Several times Maeve caught sight of it from the corner of her eye and said with a laugh, "I must say, you two truly are a match made in heaven. People say a talented man and a beautiful woman, but you two have both talent and beauty."
Sienna listened but didn’t feel happy, retorting, "So without him, I can still find someone nice."
"That’s not easy to say."
.
At eleven, the car exited the highway, took the national road to South Bay, and half an hour later arrived near the South Bay Flower Fields.
Maeve parked the car outside a snack shop in the tourist area. After jumping out of the car, she smiled at Harrison Rowe, who also got out, "We have a contract signing at one, not much time left, let’s make do with lunch, I’ll treat you to a feast tonight."
Harrison made an OK gesture, "No problem, no problem!"
Simon had already taken off his sunglasses, walking straight towards Maeve’s car, opened the passenger door, and looked at Sienna still sitting inside.
"Are you hungry?"
Half a month without seeing or contacting, his voice was still as gentle as ever.
Sienna felt sad and wronged, pouting, not looking at him, not speaking to him. When he reached out to help her out of the car, she ignored him, pushing his hand away, getting out by herself.
Simon closed the passenger door, his gaze following Sienna who walked towards Maeve, his expression not looking too good.
The group went into the small restaurant.
The small restaurant was packed with tourists from afar here to see the flowers. Waitstaff carried trays between tables, filling the restaurant with a medley of scents mingled with kitchen oil fumes sneaking into Sienna’s nose, she frowned slightly.
The server led them to a small square table by the window for four people, the table draped with a red cloth, topped with a piece of transparent glass serving as the tabletop, visibly greasy.
Sienna was about to ask the server to wipe the table again, but Simon had already pulled out a chair for her, "Please sit down first."
She reluctantly sat down, just about to call Maeve to sit next to her, Simon had already sat down right beside her.
She didn’t want to see him, so she turned to look out the window instead.
After a while, she heard Maeve say, "Oh, Director, you don’t have to be so courteous, let me do it."
Sienna glanced over to see Simon wiping the greasy tabletop in front of her with wet wipes. After wiping, he asked for hot water to rinse her utensils.
For a moment, her heart, initially cold and hard, softened for a few seconds, but then she remembered his mistake and how he went cold on her for half a month. The resentment surged up again, and she continued gazing out the window.
Perhaps seeing the awkward atmosphere between the two, Maeve and Harrison chatted to ease the tension.
Harrison said, "The contract signing is at one. If everything goes smoothly, it should be finished by four or five, right? Are Ms. Lester and Lawyer Thorne planning to return to Brimfield the same day?"
Maeve glanced at a sulking Sienna and smiled, "After the contract is signed, I plan to take Sienna to visit my hometown for a bit."
Simon gave Harrison a meaningful look.
Harrison understood and quickly asked, "Where’s Ms. Lester’s hometown?"
"Z City."
"Then that’s quite a coincidence. We happen to have business in Z City too, so we’ll go with you!"
Maeve didn’t dare agree on her own, and looked at Sienna, seeing she had no obvious objections, she understood this girl still wanted to reconcile with Simon deep down.
"Great, dinner’s on me, Director Forrester has to join us, okay?"
Simon smiled, "Of course."
Sienna glared at him, but under the table, her hand was held by a warm and dry, large hand.
She struggled a few times, unable to break free, and had to give up, letting Simon hold her hand as he wished.
She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye.
He was talking to Maeve and Harrison, looking slightly serious and all business, but under the table, he unabashedly caressed the back of her hand, her palm, and the most tender part of her wrist.
She suddenly recalled the day he confessed to her, sitting in the bar on the 68th floor, looking coldly at the high-altitude snow outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, while his hands under the table were all over hers.
During the last time they spent the night at South Bay, she realized that he seemed ascetic and abstinent, not overstepping for more than a month of dating, only pecking her cheek and hair, yet he was truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Downright wicked!
As the old saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover!
.
After finishing lunch, the four of them drove two cars to the agreed place to sign the contract.
Sienna still followed Maeve.
Watching the leading SUV in front, Maeve nodded her chin and teasingly asked, "I thought he’d invite you to ride in the same car to chit chat."
Sienna shot a hateful glare at the sexy, blast-number plated sports car in front, and sneered, "Well, you totally misunderstood him. He’s exceptionally patient and can really endure!"
