Chapter 1363: Shells Fired All at Once
Chapter 1363: Shells Fired All at Once
Zhang Kui bolted for his life, making full use of the terrain to race across the wilderness.A hundred meters behind him, three members of the Spine Team spread out, forming a fan-shaped pursuit formation.
Suddenly, White Whale’s order came down: let the enemy escape in a subtle way, don’t let him see that you’re deliberately "unable" to catch up.
The three who received this order were puzzled, but didn’t overthink it and followed the commander’s intent to the letter.
After a bout of chasing, the three from the Spine Team lost their target.
Hiding behind a big boulder, Zhang Kui looked confused and muttered, "Why’d they stop chasing? That’s really strange."
These three, of course, knew the Spine Team’s hiding place. In order to wipe them out, traps had already been prepared. Now that the three had stopped chasing, Zhang Kui couldn’t help but grow suspicious and wonder if something in the plan had been overlooked.
Since he wanted to draw the disaster eastward, he obviously couldn’t lure the Spine Team members over; other methods would be more appropriate.
"Instructor!" Zhang Kui promptly reported the situation to Ye Fan.
At the same time, Ye Fan also received a support message from Fu Huixia: according to the satellite imagery, there’s a UAV at ten thousand meters directly above you. You must be careful.
As the information support officer, Fu Huixia didn’t know Ye Fan’s plan; she simply passed on the intel she had at the first possible moment.
Ye Fan pondered briefly and understood the whole picture, then said calmly, "Since the Spine Team people stopped chasing, that’s perfect. If they had kept on us, we’d have to kill them first and then guide General Hawan’s murderous intent down onto the Spine Team’s heads."
"What should I do?" Zhang Kui asked.
"Cautiously move toward my position. Act like you’re scared of being tailed. Once you’re sure no one’s on you, close in on me fast," Ye Fan said.
Knowing what to do now, Zhang Kui tested the waters several times. Only after repeatedly confirming there were no enemies tracking him did he finally put the plan into motion.
Through the drone, General Hawan and White Whale watched Zhang Kui’s behavior clearly.
"What a sly bastard. No one’s even chasing him and he’s still this careful, like he’s terrified of being tailed," General Hawan sneered. "If we really did send a team to shadow him, he might actually slip away. Tracking this guy down would be a huge headache."
"Now this is better. Even I didn’t know you’d prepared such a big gift, General. There’s no way that pack of killers under Peng Bird could know either. Once this prey goes back to the nest, we’ll wipe them out in one go and blow them all to hell," White Whale said expressionlessly.
Three hours later, Zhang Kui reached the destination, then carefully scanned the surroundings before slipping into a cave in a small hill. Ye Fan had been waiting there for quite some time.
This cave was basically a simple drainage tunnel; the other opening connected to the abandoned building where the Spine Team was hiding.
No one lived nearby, and it had been deserted for a long time. But it was obvious this was a place nobody looked after.
"I wasn’t tracked... does that mean all our effort was for nothing?" Zhang Kui asked Ye Fan, looking uncertain.
"Fu Huixia sent word—there’s an eye in the sky watching us," Ye Fan said matter-of-factly. "So relax. There’s no flaw in our plan."
"That’s good." Zhang Kui let out a sigh of relief and marveled, "This General Hawan really is ruthless. He’s even willing to use such extreme means. You can see just how much he hates us."
Ye Fan said, "The more he hates us, the more opportunity we have to use him. An angry man is perfect for helping us out in a big way."
Zhang Kui asked doubtfully, "Right, could White Whale recognize this place and make all our effort go up in smoke? After all, White Whale knows where the Spine Team is. Now she’s with General Hawan, so I can’t help overthinking it."
"Even if it were White Whale’s own house, once the drone feeds the footage back, she wouldn’t be able to recognize it as her place right away—let alone an abandoned building where the Spine Team is holed up. White Whale’s a stranger to this area; there’s no way she’d recognize that this rundown building is their hideout. There are too many derelict buildings around here that could be our nest. With the killing intent General Hawan and White Whale have toward us, once they decide this spot is highly likely to be our foothold, they’ll hit it hard. They won’t overthink it, and they don’t have the patience to overthink it," Ye Fan analyzed.
"Then we’ll just sit back and enjoy the show, haha!" Zhang Kui laughed heartily.
"Get ready to move out. Our current position isn’t safe either." The reason Ye Fan stayed was to deal with any other contingencies that might pop up, so he could eliminate threats without exposing any trace of being tracked.
But once he understood what kind of tech General Hawan was using, he was completely at ease.
In the camp, General Hawan stared at the screen and broke into a feral grin. "Looks like that abandoned building is the bastards’ hideout. No wonder my men couldn’t find them. So they were holed up in such a desolate place. Good, very good."
"Adjutant, how are the preparations?" General Hawan looked over at his adjutant.
"Everything is ready. We’re just waiting for your order, General," the adjutant replied solemnly.
"Miss White Whale, what do you think?" General Hawan turned to White Whale, full of smugness.
"Everything is at your disposal, General," White Whale said with a smile. She had brought the Spine Team all this way without even making a move, and the targets were already about to die. It felt like punching into cotton—completely powerless, with no achievements to show for it.
This trip, she had come all the way to D Country just to eliminate those seven targets.
Now she hadn’t even gotten the chance to strike.
White Whale understood, though. She didn’t feel any discomfort just because the seven targets wouldn’t die by her hand. As long as the threat was removed, it didn’t matter who killed them.
With General Hawan using these kinds of methods, what more was there to say?
White Whale knew that even her own Spine Team wouldn’t be able to escape if they were under this kind of reconnaissance from General Hawan.
So she gladly accepted the fate about to befall the seven targets—being blown to pieces.
"If Peng Bird’s group dies, so be it. Once this threat is gone, I can safely avenge Black Shark, kill General Hawan, and then vanish without a trace." This was what White Whale was thinking to herself.
"Adjutant, order the troops: open fire, open fire. I want to watch that abandoned building get leveled with my own eyes. Don’t give the enemy a chance to breathe—leave them with no place to be buried," General Hawan ordered, grinning from ear to ear.
"As you wish, General," the adjutant said with an icy smile.
The artillery units went into action. Shells roared out in salvos, hurtling straight toward the coordinates provided by the drone, wrapped in world-shaking killing intent.
