Chapter 79 Goren's Dream
Chapter 79 Goren's Dream
Goren discovered that the heartwood was well-preserved and would fetch a good price if it were auctioned.
"When the time comes, we'll go to Silverfrost City and find a good buyer for this tree heart."
Goren figured that since Otto came from the countryside and Tessa was a priestess who had come with Eileen on a business trip, neither of them had ever been to Silverfrost City, so this might be an opportunity.
However, Goren's mention of Silverfrost City stirred up some of his own memories.
"To be honest, I always wanted to be a baker back then."
After organizing the materials, Sabrina bid farewell to the three, while Goren, along with two novice adventurers, began preparing for camping while chatting about his past dreams.
"At the time, Lillian wanted to be a chef and open a restaurant, and I wanted to accompany her as a baker."
Back then, there was a bakery in our town, and I would work there from time to time.
It was there that I learned how to get the Iron Fist job.
Goren said leisurely as he prepared the ingredients.
"At that time, there was a homeless man who had lost both arms and made a living by rummaging through the garbage in the town every day."
I figured my cooking skills weren't that great anyway, and we made so many failed attempts that Micah and I couldn't finish them all, so I just gave some bread to the homeless man.
After all, I earned these breads with my wages, so I hope they can come in handy.
I didn't expect to gain anything from it.
As Goren said this, a hint of regret appeared on his face.
Otto, standing to the side, felt that it was probably not an easy story.
Sure enough, after setting up the pot to cook the soup, Goren continued muttering to himself.
"At that time, I knew almost nothing about so-called martial artists and Qi masters."
Then one day, that homeless man suddenly found me.
He didn't say anything, he just tossed me a booklet.
Not long after, the town's guards found the homeless man dead in his wooden hut.
According to the guards, he had severe internal injuries, which he could manage on sunny days, but became ineffective once winter arrived.
However, Goren changed the subject at this point, and while stirring the soup pot, he said leisurely.
"Speaking of which, the language in that booklet seems to be that of some kind of hybrid race."
I couldn't even learn the language of the Kingdom of Thorne back then, so I didn't recognize it. It was Lord Micah who helped translate it.
It was also with Mr. Micah's help that I learned about martial artists and the Qi School.
The methods and conditions for joining Iron Fist were recorded at the end of that booklet.
Actually, all three of us tried it back then, but unfortunately, it seems that only I had the expertise in physical combat.
Hearing this, Tessa, who had already taken off her plate armor, asked curiously.
"Didn't the members of the Dragonbreaker Squad have the Bishop of Light authenticate it back then?"
Upon hearing this, Goren simply chuckled and waved his hand helplessly.
"The Order of Light, which is responsible for guiding the lost, does have that ability, but we didn't have much money back then."
Lord Micah's squad was suffering from some plague at the time, and they were struggling just to prepare dinner for us, let alone have extra money to ask the bishop to diagnose us.
As Goren spoke, he divided the cooked broth between the two of them and took out a lot of bread from his spatial pocket.
According to Goren, he made all of these breads.
"Actually, Lillian and I have already discussed it. After Lord Micah fulfills his wish, we will leave Oaktown and open our own little shop in Silverfrost City."
Seeing the relieved look on Goren's face, Tessa simply nodded.
"I'll be leaving after Eileen's shift here is over."
Tessa was originally there to learn from Erin. In fact, it could be said that Erin brought Tessa, a fledgling priestess, along to reduce the likelihood of being viewed with suspicion by those with ulterior motives.
Once things are settled here, Tessa will also leave Dragonbreaker.
Clearly, the Dragon Slayers will soon disband for their own reasons.
As for Otto, he had originally planned to continue being an adventurer, but after hearing that the Dragon Slayer might disband, he still felt a little regretful. After all, it's not easy to find such a compatible partner.
The three of them sat around the campfire, and after completing the necessary sacrificial rituals, they chatted and rested, their relationship growing much closer.
The next morning, Goren, who was on his last shift, woke the two of them up again.
Clearly, Tessa hadn't changed her bad habit; she was still keeping Otto's armor very warm.
This made Tessa a little upset. She made up her mind that when she got back, she would definitely throw away her cushion. She couldn't let things continue like this!
However, Tessa also found it a bit strange. She had been adventuring in the wild before, but she had never used other people as body pillows.
Thinking of this, Tessa looked curiously at Otto, who was washing up beside her.
Otto found a puddle, scooped up a small amount of water, and splashed it on his face.
But looking at the water droplets clinging to Otto's hair and his slightly indifferent black eyes, which were still half asleep, a word involuntarily came to Tessa's mind.
tempting.
But when Tessa realized what she was thinking, she blushed and shook her head, as if denying something.
"I have resolved to obey the commandments and become a priest serving my Lord!"
But Tessa couldn't help but think that, according to the temple's laws, if the other party was also a believer, then there would be no obstacle.
Thinking of this, Tessa seemed to calm down a lot. She simply cleared her throat and slowly walked to Otto's side with a business-like smile on her face.
"Sir adventurer, do you have a moment?"
I wish to tell you about our executioner, the god of law and judgment, Callum.
Just as Tessa was about to begin her missionary work, Otto asked her a fatal question.
Do you deliver eggs?
When Otto used to listen to that old woman preach in the village, he could get eggs every day.
He didn't want to listen to Tessa nagging all the way for nothing; that would be too much of a loss!
Otto's words, however, infuriated Tessa.
She immediately raised her hammer and was about to smash it down on Otto.
"Go live with your eggs for the rest of your life!"
The three of them set off amidst their antics.
Goren made no attempt to stop the two.
He finally understood why Javier and Micah always had that indescribable smile when they watched him and Lillian fool around back then.
However, after leaving the valley, Tessa no longer clung to the idea of preaching at this time. After all, she would have time to go back and find a more suitable opportunity.
Of course, I'll have to bring eggs next time.
Tessa was very upset. She hadn't expected that Callum was less attractive to Otto than an egg!
And so, the three of them, still making a ruckus, gradually made their way toward the cave area.
Around noon, Goren successfully found a cave, and the foul stench emanating from it indicated that the kangaroo bats were hiding inside.
With that in mind, Goren immediately told the two of them to get ready.
"Let's begin the hunt!"
