Chapter 37 Tian Xiwei: It must be my imagination.
Chapter 37 Tian Xiwei: It must be my imagination.
The car headed towards the sea. Tian Xi leaned against the window, watching the coconut trees and fishing boats flash by, repeatedly muttering, "Are we almost there? Will we see the sea soon?"
"Almost there, just past that bridge," Lin Feng said with a smile. He glanced in the rearview mirror; Liu Haochun was also looking out the window.
"Haochun, have you ever seen the sea?" Tian Xiwei suddenly turned around and asked.
Liu Haochun shook his head and said softly, "No, there's only a river in my hometown."
"Me too!" Tian Xiwei immediately perked up. "I've only ever seen it on TV! I heard seawater is salty, like tears!"
Li Yitong couldn't help but laugh: "It's much saltier than tears. You can try it later."
"No way!" Tian Xi wrinkled her nose slightly, which made everyone laugh.
Upon arriving at the dock, Lin Feng went to buy boat tickets, while Tian Xiwei pulled Liu Haochun to the railing, pointing to the island in the distance: "Look, look, isn't that the island we're going to? It looks like a green cake!"
Liu Haochun chuckled and nodded, "I think so, she looks so pretty."
"Let's go, let's get on the ship." Lin Feng walked over with the tickets.
The ferry wasn't large, and the second deck was packed with people. Tian Xi pulled Liu Haochun to grab a spot at the very front. The wind made their hair fly wildly, but it couldn't hide the excitement in their eyes.
"Look at that fishing boat!" Tian Xi pointed into the distance. "It looks like there are fishing nets on it!"
"Hmm, maybe they caught a lot of fish." Liu Haochun looked in the direction she was pointing, his eyes full of curiosity.
Upon arriving on the island, we bought a combined ticket for the scenic area and the four of us walked along the stone path. The air on the island smelled of the sea, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the banyan trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground.
"Wow, this rice noodle roll looks so delicious!" Tian Xiwei pointed at the roadside stall, her eyes wide with delight.
Lin Feng bought four servings and handed them over: "Try them, it's a local specialty."
Tian Xi took a big bite, scalding it and exhaling sharply, but still managed to mumble, "Delicious! Better than the ones near the school gate!"
Liu Haochun ate very politely, taking small bites, but his eyes shone with satisfaction.
Li Yitong also thought it tasted good; the rice noodles were smooth and tender, the sauce was rich, and it had a hint of seafood sweetness.
They ate their way through the walk—fish ball soup, fried five-spice rolls… Tian Xiwei's stomach quickly swelled up, but she was still muttering, "I want to eat that grilled squid too!"
"Save some room in your stomach, I'll take you out for a seafood feast tonight." Lin Feng said helplessly, pulling her back.
After walking for two hours, they finally arrived at the beach. Tian Xiwei saw the golden sand and the blue sea and instantly screamed, kicking off her shoes and rushing over: "Wow! This is the sea! It's a million times more beautiful than on TV!"
Liu Haochun also took off his shoes and carefully stepped onto the sand.
Li Yitong and Lin Feng slowly walked over, watching them hopping and skipping in the shallow water, their skirts fluttering in the wind.
"Shall we go change into our swimsuits?" Raymond Lam asked.
Li Yitong nodded: "Yeah, it's a rare opportunity to come here, so it'll be nice to play in the water."
In the changing room, Tian Xiwei chose a pink one-piece swimsuit with a bear pattern printed on it, Liu Haochun wore a white one with a skirt that reached her knees, which was very conservative, while Li Yitong wore a blue one with a simple design that showed off her figure.
"Sister Yitong, you have such a great figure!" Tian Xi said enviously. "I wish I could have a waist as slim as yours."
Li Yitong smiled and pinched her cheek: "You're still growing, you'll be even prettier in the future."
Once in the water, Tian Xiwei completely let loose, chasing the waves one moment and squatting down to dig in the sand the next, splashing water that soaked everyone's clothes.
"Brother Feng! Come take a picture of us!" she shouted, holding up her phone.
Raymond Lam took out his phone from the waterproof bag and said to them, "Smile!"
Tian Xiwei immediately moved closer to Liu Haochun and made a big heart shape with her hands. Liu Haochun was a little shy, but he smiled in response. Li Yitong stood a little further away, the wind blowing her long hair.
"I want to take a picture with Brother Feng too!" Tian Xi ran over and grabbed Lin Feng's arm, practically hanging on him.
"Alright, alright, that's it." Lin Feng reluctantly pressed the shutter. In the photo, Tian Xi smiled brightly, while he looked helpless, with the shimmering sea in the background.
When it was her turn to take a photo with Liu Haochun, she was noticeably more reserved, simply standing quietly next to him, unsure of what to do with her hands.
"Be natural," Lin Feng said with a smile, "Just like usual."
Liu Haochun nodded, relaxed a little, and a faint smile appeared on his lips. The photo showed the two standing side by side, with the sea breeze blowing, creating a quiet and beautiful scene.
As the sun set, the sky was dyed orange-red. Raymond Lam suggested taking silhouette photos, and Tian Xiwei was the first to agree: "I want to take one with Brother Feng!"
With her back to the setting sun, she and Lin Feng made a heart shape with their hands, their shadows stretched long and close together. Tian Xiwei looked at the photos on her phone, feeling a sweet warmth in her heart.
When it was Li Yitong's turn, she hesitated for a moment, but still walked to Lin Feng's side. The two didn't do anything intimate, just stood side by side, looking at the distant sea.
Tian Xiwei held up her phone to take a picture. Looking at the shadows of the two people on the screen, she suddenly felt a little glaring. Their posture was obviously very ordinary, but for some reason, they felt like a couple.
"I must be overthinking it." She shook her head, dismissing the thought. "I must have misread it."
As darkness fell, the group reluctantly left the beach. On the boat back, Tian Xiwei was still excitedly looking through the photos on her phone: "Look at this one I took of Feng Ge, he looks like he's laughing! And this one of Hao Chun, he's grinning like a fool!"
Liu Haochun also took out her phone, found the photo of herself and Raymond Lam, and quietly saved it, a smile involuntarily creeping onto her face.
As Li Yitong watched them share photos, she opened her own album and flipped to the silhouette photo of herself and Raymond Lam. Her heart felt as if something had gently bumped into it.
After leaving the island, it was almost nine o'clock when we drove to the hotel near Huangyan Beach. Since we had eaten quite a bit on the island in the afternoon, none of us were very hungry, so we just grabbed some satay noodles and fish ball soup at the food street near the hotel.
Inside the elevator, Tian Xiwei was still chattering away: "Today was so much fun! It was my first time seeing the sea, my first time on a boat, and I took so many beautiful photos!"
"We need to get up early to go beachcombing tomorrow, so get some rest," Lin Feng reminded him.
"Okay!"
At 4:30 a.m. the next day, before the alarm clock even went off, Tian Xiwei had already knocked on Lin Feng's door, her eyes full of excitement, showing no signs of sleepiness: "Brother Feng! Get up! Let's go beachcombing!"
Lin Feng reluctantly got up and knocked on Liu Haochun and Li Yitong's door. The two came out sleepy-eyed, their hair a little messy, but they still couldn't hide their anticipation.
When we arrived at the beach, it was just getting light. The sea in the distance was tinged with a pale white, and many people were already busy on the beach with small buckets and shovels, searching for seashells and small crabs by the dim light.
"Let's hurry up!" Tian Xiwei picked up the shovel.
Liu Haochun and Li Yitong also picked up tools and slowly explored the beach. Lin Feng followed behind them, carrying a large bucket to collect their "spoils of war".
"Wow! I found a clam!" Tian Xiwei's voice broke the morning's tranquility. She held up the small seashell in her hand, as excited as if she had found a treasure.
"I have a little crab here!" Liu Haochun whispered, carefully putting the crab into the bucket.
Li Yitong found several small sea snails under a rock. She picked them up with a smile and put them in a bucket: "These can be used as decorations."
As the sun slowly rose, golden sunlight spilled onto the sea, making it sparkle. The group watched the sunrise, forgetting to speak. They realized that the sunrise was truly beautiful, like nature's most generous gift.
By the end of the beachcombing trip, the bucket was filled with quite a few "trophies": clams, small crabs, conch, oysters... Although they were not very big, they were all picked up by hand, making them very meaningful.
After returning to the hotel and having breakfast, the group set off for their next destination, Nanputuo Temple. The temple was solemn and dignified, with abundant incense offerings. Tian Xiwei and Liu Haochun obediently followed Lin Feng in offering incense and praying to Buddha, also requesting amulets for peace and safety.
"Here, take this." Tian Xiwei handed Lin Feng a lucky charm, saying, "It'll ensure a smooth filming process!"
"Thanks." Lin Feng took it and put it in his pocket.
Liu Haochun also handed one over, saying softly, "This... I wish you peace as well."
"Thank you, Haochun."
