Chapter 46: The Matter of Qi Yue's Illness
Chapter 46: The Matter of Qi Yue's Illness
"Oh, director."
"What?! Director?!"
Wu You suddenly realized what was happening, her eyes widened, and her voice rose slightly.
"Nazha! You wouldn't happen to be talking about... that director of 'Yu Zui,' the one you just worked with on 'Day and Night'... Qi Yue, would you?!"
Naza didn't speak, but simply nodded slightly, the tips of her ears turning a little red.
"Okay, so what did he do for that woman?" Wu You's gossip-loving soul was burning.
"Write a song," Naza mumbled, her fingers unconsciously tracing circles on the dining table.
"Write a song?!" Wu You was taken aback.
"Where's the song? Can I listen to it? Let me hear it now! I want to hear what kind of song could make our beautiful Nazha so depressed!"
Naza hesitated for a moment, then took one of her earphones off her neck and handed it over.
Wu You couldn't wait to put the headphones in and play the song "Nameless Person" on Nazha's phone.
The piano intro flowed out slowly, first a male voice, then Li Qing's clear and resilient harmonies entered...
Wu You's playful expression gradually faded as she listened to the poetic lyrics, lost in thought for a moment.
This song... is completely different from the pop songs she usually listens to; it has a power that strikes right at the heart.
She glanced subconsciously at the song information on her phone screen: Producer/Composer/Arranger: Qi Yue.
Sure enough it was him!
The song is indeed very good.
But as best friends, we must stand firm!
Wu You abruptly ripped off her headphones, slammed them on the table, and looked indignant.
"Nana! Although he's a director, handsome, and talented..."
"Wait," Naza interrupted her, blinking in confusion.
"Are you insulting him? It sounds like you're praising him!"
Wu You coughed awkwardly.
"What I mean is, no matter who he is or how capable he is, if this behavior pattern suggests he's a scumbag, then he's definitely a scumbag!"
"Sister, listen to me, stay away from him from now on, don't pay any more attention to him! Men are all jerks, there are plenty of high-quality guys chasing after you from the acting department to the directing department, we don't need him!"
As Naza listened to Wu You's resolute words and looked at the chicken leg on her plate that was gradually losing its heat, the inexplicable sense of loss in her heart seemed to have found an outlet.
Yes, Youyou is right. He wrote such a good song for Li Qing, but he never said he would write a song for himself, nor did he do anything specifically for him.
Perhaps... in his heart, he really was just a "connected" actor who needed to be taken care of, and ultimately he was different from Li Qing, who was "one of his own" whom he had personally discovered and nurtured.
"Hmm..." she responded softly, as if she had made up her mind, "You're right, from now on... don't pay any more attention to him."
"Yes, just treat your relationship as that of a normal director and actor."
Wu You's words seemed to give Nazha courage. She picked up her phone, wanting to open Weibo and unfollow Qi Yue.
At least block his updates; out of sight, out of mind.
However, as soon as her fingertip swiped to the following list, a Weibo post that had just popped up from "Qi Yue," a person she was particularly following, drew her attention like a magnet.
The Weibo post was very simple, and it didn't even seem to be posted by Qi Yue himself; it appeared to be posted by his assistant using his account.
[We regret to inform everyone that Director Qi has been hospitalized due to overwork from working long hours. His condition is currently stable, but he will require several days of observation and rest in the hospital. Post-production work on "Day and Night" will be temporarily handled by other members of the team. Thank you for your concern.]
The accompanying picture is a slightly pale corner of a hospital room, with a potted plant on the windowsill. No one is visible, but the atmosphere is so quiet that it makes one's heart tighten.
Naza's mind went blank, and all the sulking and grievances she had just felt were instantly washed away.
He fainted? He's in the hospital? What happened to him?
"Nazha? Nazha!"
Wu You noticed that her face had suddenly turned deathly pale, and she was staring blankly at her phone, unresponsive even after being called several times.
"What are you looking at so intently...?"
Naza snapped back to her senses, abruptly standing up, her plate rattling loudly.
"Youyou, I have to go now! Could you clear the table for me?"
She spoke very quickly, grabbed her backpack and phone, turned around and ran out, leaving the fried chicken leg lying alone on the plate, and a bewildered Wu You.
"Hey! Naza! Where are you going? We haven't eaten yet!" Wu You called out from behind her.
Naza can no longer hear.
Only one thought occupied her mind: she ran out of the cafeteria, across the campus, frantically searching her contacts as she ran. She didn't know the hospital address, Guo Fan's phone number… Yes, Coach Guo!
She found Guo Fan's number and dialed it, her heart pounding like a drum.
The phone rang several times before being answered, and there was some background noise.
"Feed? Naza?"
"Producer Guo! It's me, Nazha!" she asked urgently.
"I...I saw it on Weibo. How is Director Qi? Which hospital is he in? Is it serious?"
On the other end of the phone, Guo Fan seemed to sigh:
"Sigh, this kid, he just won't listen, he's been pushing himself too hard... It's nothing serious, just low blood sugar and excessive fatigue. The doctor wants him hospitalized for observation for two days, given some IV fluids, and forced to rest. He's in the People's Hospital inpatient ward... Hey, Nazha, you..."
"Thank you, Coach Guo!" Naza hung up the phone before he could finish speaking and hailed a taxi.
"Driver, to the People's Hospital, please hurry!"
In the cafeteria, Wu You looked at Nazha's discarded fried chicken leg, then glanced down at the Weibo post about Qi Yue's hospitalization, and shook her head helplessly.
"Well, I've been a relationship guru for nothing. My sister is... completely screwed."
She poked the chicken leg and muttered to herself:
"Whether men are 'big pig trotters' or not is another matter, but Director Qi's 'trotter' seems to be quite alluring, huh?"
......
A hospital ward with a number starting with 3
The air was filled with the faint smell of disinfectant, mixed with the warm aroma of the food.
Qi Yue was awakened by rustling sounds beside his bed.
He opened his eyes. His vision went from blurry to clear.
He saw a figure with their back to him carefully pouring the contents of a thermal lunchbox into a bowl.
They moved gently, afraid of making too much noise.
Seemingly sensing the movement on the bed, Li Qing turned around and met Qi Yue's gaze.
She was startled, her hand trembled, and she almost dropped the spoon. A blush quickly rose to her face.
"I'm sorry, Director Qi, I woke you up."
She put down the bowl and stood there, at a loss.
Qi Yue propped himself up and sat up, his gaze sweeping over the surrounding white walls and the potted green ivy on the windowsill, which no one knew who had placed there. His brows furrowed slightly.
"What's wrong with me...?"
"The doctor said you had low blood sugar, and coupled with recent overwork, you fainted at home."
Li Qing quickly explained, a hint of lingering fear still in her voice.
"Fortunately... it was discovered in time."
