Bai Meiyue pursed her lips when she heard Shen Zhen’s words. She thought about it a little and said in a low voice, "I can help you in arranging foetal-preserving medicine." She could always use the barter system to arrange for the medicine, even if there was no medicine present in the safe base.

She curled her lips in a little wry smile and said in a sad voice, "How hypocritical will I sound if I ask another woman to give up on her child while I try my best to keep mine? I know it better than anyone —that a weak foetus can never survive in this world."

She inhaled sharply and continued, "It is better if I were to suffer a short-term loss than a big one. What if I preserve this child, and he or she doesn’t awaken as an ability user? A weak foetus...will have even weaker chances to awaken."

Shen Zhen was a doctor herself, and she knew what kind of world she was living in at the moment. If she dared to keep a weak foetus, then the one who would suffer would naturally be her.

"I understand." Bai Meiyue couldn’t think of anything else other than saying these two words. She knew that Shen Zhen’s decision was indeed correct as a doctor, but as a mother, she could not help but feel sorry for her. She was right, but the cost was way too high.

The two of them were silent for a while, and then after a short pause, Shen Zhen exhaled heavily. "Bai Meiyue, do you know? I really envy you."

"Of me?" Bai Meiyue arched a brow and looked at the woman in front of her. She didn’t think that there was anything in her hands that could make Shen Zhen envious of her.

"Yes." Shen Zhen answered with a nod. "You have been determined to protect this child ever since you came to know about his existence. Maybe it was because of your fierce determination that even the heavens gave you the strength to keep your child." Bai Meiyue awakened before the end of the world, which allowed her body to go through all kinds of development and helped in stabilising the foetus in her womb. Unlike her, who had no strength or power that would help her in stabilising the baby.

"Doctor Shen, you... If you are struggling, just try to do your best. This is the end of the world; there is nothing set in stone; people’s physiques can change at any time."

Bai Meiyue understood Shen Zhen’s predicament; the woman must be feeling heartbroken at the sight of blood after finding out that she was pregnant. After all, if a woman were to find out that she was losing her baby, she would try to save the pregnancy at all costs. Even if it meant giving everything up.

Bai Meiyue knew that the one thing that Shen Zhen was worried about was using all the resources only to lose the baby in the end. But now it was the end of the world, and human bodies would mutate all the time. Whether or not the child would awaken depended on the circumstances and the situation at the time. No one could guarantee that a weak child would never be able to awaken. It was just the current situation that made everyone believe that it was not possible. But what if somehow a weak child mutated and broke through in the future?

This was the beauty that the future held. It was full of mysteries as well as hope.

She relayed her thoughts to Shen Zhen. She did not want Shen Zhen to be filled with regrets just because she did not try hard enough.

"If you want to keep the child, then tell me; I will arrange the preserving medicine. I know that you feel that it is not right, but as cruel as it sounds, you have the resources to keep your child and those whom you ask to give up do not."

Bai Meiyue patted Shen Zhen on the shoulder when she saw that the woman had fallen into silence. She gave her silent encouragement and then left the room without saying much while holding her big belly. It was better to leave Shen Zhen alone. At least Shen Zhen would be able to come up with a decision if she stayed alone; if she discussed this matter with countless people, then there would be all kinds of suggestions.

It was better for her to stay alone for some time and come up with a decision.

Bai Meiyue returned to the watch tower. It was time for the mutated bugs to attack once again. The zombie king might be arranging the corpse tide to follow him, so it would take some time for it to come here. But the same could not be said for the mutated bugs.

"Be prepared,’ Bai Meiyue said to the ability users who were keeping guard at the watch station.

When the ability users saw how solemn Bai Meiyue looked, they gulped hard and turned solemn as well. It seemed like there was something that was waiting for them. Sure enough, there was a buzzing sound. A sound so horrifying that it made their hearts tremble. At first, they could not understand, but that was until they saw a mutilated mass flying toward them. The thing seemed to have thousands—no more than millions of tiny heads. Two big wings that were batting against one another, creating a buzzing sound that shook the earth.

Blood dripped from its body as it flew toward their safe base.

"What...what the hell is that?"

"A mutated bug, what else?" Bai Meiyue answered the man calmly.
