Chapter 1309 - 1307: This Is Not a Dream
Chapter 1309 - 1307: This Is Not a Dream
The Xia Family’s side didn’t have many relatives coming over, and the ladies from the Tang Family had already left the residence. So the bridal chamber was completely empty.
As Xia Jingfeng entered the room, he glanced around and saw only Xiao Chuan and two Wedding Matrons serving on the side, and his heart instantly settled.
Great, no one’s in the way!
He cleared his throat a couple of times, masking his drunken state, rubbed his hands to hide his nervousness, and then strode towards the bride’s seat.
The two Wedding Matrons approached with smiles, saying a myriad of auspicious words, and handed over a scale with a large red silk flower tied to it.
"The groom lifts the veil, and the bride and groom are united, perfect and harmonious!"
Xia Jingfeng took the scale, a smile playing on his lips.
In his heart, however, he was extremely nervous, his breathing a bit unstable, and even the hand holding the scale was slightly trembling.
He had imagined and pictured this moment countless times in his mind, and had experienced it countless times in his dreams.
Imagining ’How wonderful it would be if I could marry her in this life.’
But when all this was truly in front of him.
It felt too perfect, almost unreal.
He was so afraid, afraid that this was just another dream, so he dared not blink, dared not breathe, fearing to disturb this beautiful scene.
He paused for a long while, until a Wedding Matron urged him, and he suddenly snapped back.
’Yes! This is not a dream, this is real!’
’Xunxun is right in front of him, he can see her just by lifting the veil, he can embrace her!’
Realizing this, without waiting to be urged again.
He immediately stepped forward and lifted the grand red brocade veil with a flourish.
The red brocade fabric fluttered to the ground.
The two Wedding Matrons were quick-tongued, exuberantly uttering all kinds of auspicious words.
But Xia Jingfeng and Tang Xun had no time to listen to these.
They gazed into each other’s eyes, silent in mutual understanding, expressing their deep affection with intense and fervent looks.
They were like the Cowherd and Weaver Girl who waited year after year on either side of the Magpie Bridge, finally meeting, with tender emotions in their hearts.
Having too much to say, but not knowing where to start.
Xia Jingfeng sat down beside Tang Xun, the two held hands face to face, one with eyes full of gentle affection, the other’s eyes brimming with tears.
The Wedding Matron smiled and came forward, tying their garment hems together into a love knot, called ’Commitment.’
Then they tied their hair together, called ’Harmonious Hair.’
Finally, the two Wedding Matrons carried a basin filled with dates, peanuts, longan, and lotus seeds, scattering them all over the bed within the canopy, called ’Abundant Offspring Soon!.’
After doing all this, the two Wedding Matrons finally exited gracefully.
Xia Jingfeng finally breathed a sigh of relief, silently lamenting ’This damned ceremony, finally over!’
Xiao Chuan stepped forward, filling two pearl- and gemstone-adorned wine cups, and brought the tray to the two with a smile.
"Miss, Young Master, please drink the joint-cup wine!"
"Hmm?"
Xia Jingfeng was quite unsatisfied with this title, raised an eyebrow, and gave him a glare.
Xiao Chuan quickly corrected himself.
"Young Master, Young Lady, please drink the joint-cup wine!"
"Hmm!" That’s more like it.
Xia Jingfeng finally nodded in satisfaction.
He lifted both wine cups, handing one to Tang Xun.
"Xunxun!"
Tang Xun took the wine cup with reddened eyes.
The two crossed their arms and downed the wine in one go.
Xiao Chuan led all the serving maids out, following Sister Xi’s instructions to arrange for the water to be heated.
In the bridal chamber.
A pair of thick Dragon and Phoenix Candles on the table lit up the room brightly.
The two sat side by side in front of the bed, eyes locked in deep gaze.
Xia Jingfeng reached out to tidy her hair by her forehead, his movements gentle, his gaze soft.
Tang Xun blushed bright red, lowering her head.
Xia Jingfeng’s heart softened, leaning forward to embrace her in his arms.
Tang Xun inclined into his shoulder, tears streaming, her voice choked with sobs.
"What’s wrong?"
Xia Jingfeng was a bit flustered, gently patting her back with his warm and broad palm.
Tang Xun cried even harder.
Her body shivered slightly, as if she had suffered great grievances, and needed to vent them all.
"Tell me, what’s wrong?"
Xia Jingfeng knew she had suffered a lot of grievances, continually comforting her, though his heart ached terribly.
Though outwardly his tone was gentle and soothing, inside he...wished nothing more than to carve those people into pieces.
"It’s too hard!"
Tang Xun whimpered with quivering lips.
"I just feel, it’s too hard!"
Xia Jingfeng’s heart twitched, as if someone was digging into it with a knife.
"It’s okay! It’s all over now, everything’s past!" he softly comforted.
Tang Xun wept like rain.
All these years, it had been so hard for her.
Living in that swamp, she had to arm herself completely for survival.
She had to kill the innocent girl inside her, piece by piece, and become strong from inside out!
She had to suppress her nature, her temper forcibly! She had to endure, letting them trample in every way!
The most laughable was, all this simply because her mother was a performer.
Does being a performer make one less human?
Her mother was clean and pure, earning her living with talent, what was there to be ashamed of?
She didn’t sell her body, what is there to be so lowly about!
Even if she’s truly lowly, it’s not her mother’s fault!
She’s a meek woman, what god-forsaken crime did she commit to deserve such humiliation?
The more Tang Xun thought, the sadder she became.
Sobbing she threw herself into Xia Jingfeng’s arms.
He was utterly flustered.
His hands gently patted her back.
But his eyes gleamed with coldness, his heart ached unbearably.
He lightly squinted his eyes, murmuring to himself.
’Good! Very good!’
’Tang Xun’s suffering days are over, yours are just beginning, Tang Family, I won’t spare a single one of you!’
Tang Xun cried for a full quarter-hour before stopping.
She sat up, wiped her tears, looked at his clothes dirtied by her, and touched her cheeks, embarrassedly lowering her head, not daring to look at him.
Xia Jingfeng, however, chuckled, teasing her.
"The clothes got dirty, Madam has to be responsible, I won’t take care of it!"
Tang Xun blushed, pinching him lightly without a word.
Xia Jingfeng lightly pinched her arm back, asking.
"Feeling better?"
Tang Xun was taken aback, then nodded.
Funny thing is.
Just now her heart was terribly oppressed, after a good cry, it seemed to have aired out a lot, and her mood was much lighter.
She took a deep breath, looking up at him, saying.
"I’m much better!"
Just as she finished speaking, she saw Xia Jingfeng suddenly smile, then quickly subdued it.
"That’s good!"
He stifled his laughter, saying softly.
Tang Xun was a bit puzzled, but quickly understood.
Covering her cheeks with her hand, she bent her head low, her face burning red with embarrassment.
"Ah!"
Her face must be completely messed up from crying, looking terrible, he must be laughing at her!
